Our Behavioral Health specialists effectively treat many of life's most difficult problems, addressing the mental health of patients in a caring, supportive environment.

Our Approach to Care

Our mission is to provide excellent assessment and treatment of adults and children with psychiatric illnesses, emotional problems, and behavioral disorders. We offer a wide range of evidence based psychiatric, psychological, and neuropsychological services in a private and comfortable environment and are dedicated to providing you compassionate and high-quality care with a personal approach.

Psychiatry

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor and licensed to write prescriptions. Many mental disorders can be treated effectively with medication, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD or bipolar disorder. Often a combination of medication and psychotherapy or counseling is needed. If that is the case, the psychiatrist may provide the psychotherapy, or the psychiatrist may refer you to a counselor or other type of mental health professional.

Psychology

Often a psychologist will work in association with a psychiatrist or other medical doctor who provides the medical treatment for mental illness, while the psychologist provides the psychotherapy.  Licensed mental health counselors and clinical social workers are often also part of the behavioral medicine teams.

CAMC offers behavioral health resources in multiple locations throughout the system, including the Family Resource Center at CAMC Women & Children’s Hospital, the Family Medicine Center and the West Virginia University Department of Behavioral Medicine located in the Institute for Academic Medicine building on the CAMC Memorial Hospital campus.
